Importance of meshing in natural referencing:
The great innovation that Google brought about, when it appeared on the market in 1997 was to take into account not only the content of the markers dedicated to referencing (meta name description, meta name keywords…) and the content of the pages of a site but above all what is said on a site.
In practical terms, this resulted in the analysis of the pages and sites (theme, number of links present in the page, reputation of the site…) proposing a link towards the site concerned in order to determine its importance and its content.
The development of meshing, in other words external links (also called "backlink" or "in-coming links"), thus became an essential stage to optimise one’s referencing and hope to obtain good positioning.
Illustration with the "Nicolas Sarkozy" case:
In 2005, a strange phenomenon was noted on Google.fr. When the Net surfer typed "Nicolas Sarkozy", he saw appearing in second position of the results the official site of the film "Izogoud" by Patrick Braoudé. This incongruous association resulted from the creation, by webmasters, of many links towards the film website, links relating to the name of the future president. Google, estimating that there had to be a similarity between the theme of the link and the theme of the film, thus proposed this result to Net surfers, although "Nicolas Sarkozy" at no time appeared in the pages of the film site. This manipulation, based on the importance of the theme of links in the analysis of the target site, is called “Google bombing” (Google is now very vigilant concerning this type of practice).
Importance of meshing in the traffic of a site:
A recent study indicates that the traffic of a site comes, on an average of approximately 30%, from an external site proposing a link towards the target site.
The external links thus constitute a privileged access for your site. Monitoring these links, a development both quantitative and qualitative, forms part of the essential attitudes to adopt in any E-marketing policy.
